A waste management worker who earned $15K in a week in the Amazon is now getting a $15k paycheck.
Derek Lillie earned the money while running a waste management business.
He also has an engineering degree from Harvard.
He says he had to make a choice between his engineering degree and his job, but chose engineering.
“It was very tough, because it was a very competitive job and it was going to be in a very remote place,” Lilli said.
He says he needed a lot of training.
He was on call 24/7.
Lillie was a waste collection worker and garbage disposal specialist.
He worked at the Garbage Pick-up area in San Antonio, Texas for the last 10 years.
It was a hard job, he says.
“I did not want to give up,” he said.
“I just wanted to get out of that job.”
Now, Lillis working for Waste Management, gets a pay check of $15.5k.
It’s part of a new initiative called the Waste Management Community Award.
The goal is to make waste management a more attractive career.
The award was started by Waste Management and is made up of more than 100 awards.
The winners receive a check for a portion of their award.
The winners also get a $25,000 gift card for a local grocery store.
It includes food, groceries, household goods and more.
The recipients also get the opportunity to attend an award dinner with the mayor and the mayor’s office.
The idea is to bring awareness to waste management.
Waste management is a large industry in Texas.
It handles more than 2 billion tons of garbage each year.
